Children of the Secret State

February 15, 2009

This is a heartbreaking, shocking and disturbing documentary about the actual state of North Korea and its ever increasing number of orphans. It shows secret footage, filmed by Ahn Chol, of starving orphans and international food aid being sold on the black market. Ahn Chol won the prestigious Rory Peck award for courageous freelance photography in 2001. He continues to risk his life filming in North Korea in an attempt to let the world know what’s really going on inside North Korea’s borders.

In this film, you’ll see many interviews with North Korean refugees who tell shocking and disturbing stories about what they’ve been through and witnessed in North Korea. Their stories and drawings are almost unbelievable; cannibalism, “hostels” where orphans are locked up to die, entire families sent to prison camps for reasons unknown to them, prison guards receiving rewards for killing prisoners, and enormously cruel punishments and killings.

Please watch this video and help spread awareness about what’s really going on inside North Korea’s borders.
